A Message from Karina Gonzalez, LCSW

KARINA’S PSYCHOLOGY TODAY PROFILE

For kids and teens, big feelings can show up as shutting down, pulling away, conflict, or behavior adults struggle to understand. Sometimes they know something feels wrong but don’t have the words for it yet. I work with children, adolescents, and young adults to make sense of what they’re experiencing, work through anxiety, depression, trauma, and life changes, and build tools that fit their real lives, not just what works on paper. Parents are part of the process, too, with support to better understand their child and reinforce progress at home.

I help young people connect what they feel, what they’ve experienced, and how they respond. I draw from CBT, attachment and strengths-based approaches, Motivational Interviewing, and EMDR, tailoring therapy to each person. With children and teens, I collaborate with caregivers while making space for the young person’s own voice.

As a first-generation daughter of immigrant parents, I appreciate how family, culture, and personal history shape the way we see ourselves and the world around us. I believe understanding your story is an important part of understanding yourself and finding new ways forward. My goal is to help young people feel understood while discovering strengths and possibilities they may not yet see in themselves.
